The carryings on and dynamics amongst each individual becomes more and more pronounced. Mum tidies up alone on the nest, juvie flies in, Mum flies off, and mimics same actions. At least a couple of behavioural actions here…And then there is the food situation, who catches, who sees the catch, who eats, who gives, who receives. Not satisfied, they squawk, full, they squawk, hungry or not. Pops remains aloof, was it fishing, guarding territory (and we do have a fair number of intruders and will continue to do so) or watching the golf?
“Our” female remains an extremely devoted parent. The juvies are still her priority. I would like her to eat more, she appears tired. Let us not forget that on Friday she caught 4 fish in as many attempts and did catch two (one too large to lift) yesterday afternoon in front of juvies and us visitors. Breeding is a massive task. I remain hopeful that the young will soon be less reliant on the parents in order for her to recover from this very stressfull four months.
Calm and warm here at present. We shall continue to marvel, whether overseas, overair, or at the Loch of the Lowes, Perthshire, Scotland. Rinchen

Rinchen, where did that chick get the fish? I wasn’t looking at the time.
Now mum’s brought in another fish, and the chick grabbed that one too! The other chick saw mum delivering, and was right there waiting, but to no avail, alas.
I see it’s big sis who has both fish – no surprise there then!
Carolyn, I think that the male brought the perch, although I was doing something else at the moment. Perhaps someone saw it?
As Hel suggested, hereis link to picture

Susan, I had replied further down – got in on facebook – think the drawing is beautiful. All the best Emma
amazing drawing – especially for a first time – what talent.
18:54 19 July The last chick flew at Loch Garten. He landed back with one heck of a thump three minutes later at 18:57. Wah hooo!
at last lol. Well done lg. Three fledgings.
Just wonderful news!! Well done EJ and Odin xxx
I’ve not had much opportunity to visit the webcam or blogs today, until now. Thank you so much for the lovely camera work just now. I saw two chicks on nest…one had consumed some food, the other was screaming for some…..then one chick flew off, camera following it to the trees on the left, and then camera panned round to the trees at the end of the loch, nd I think…no, am sure it was Lady perched there.
Sandra C.
Well I shouldn’t be surprised to see yopu are still “at work” Rinchen, I thought I had done a long day, which is why I posted a quick question from my phone at work.
I see you are following a small bird at the moment through the trees, fascinating to watch, was it a blue tit?
Couldn’t make it out properly, but from the way it was hanging from the branches, I thought it might be. Have both chicks fed today Rinchen, and how about Mum? I never seem to see dad nowadays.
Jan, there have been a few small fish brought in. Not much for Mum. Yes, a blue tit and a brief glimpse of a willow warbler. I also followed a coal tit with the above two species earlier today. I don’t know if many saw them. They were better images than just now. I should be “off”. BEST, BEST, BEST, till next time from Rinchen.
Is it possible that the Lady is catching fish and eating them herself away from the nest? I would like to think that this is true rather than that the young osprey vacuum cleaner is sucking down everything in sight, including that big trout yesterday. Maybe this can be the plot of our children’s book–greed makes you too fat to fly?
Best regards to All,
Martha
Sorry for the spelling mistake, was a case of dyslexic fingers!!, or as my pals call it” a Jan”
Thanks Rinchen, night night
Great camera work there, Rinchen. These small birds were moving too fast for me to identify them. Nice to see mum too, surveying the loch, and big chick on the dead branch.
Susan McVey – Susan, I have just seen drawing your daughter made of ‘The Lady’ – it is absolutely beautiful. Give her a big pat on the back from me please. Well Done Emma
This is a first attempt? It’s wonderful. Emma is a very talented young lady. Dare we ask her for a drawing of one of our ospreys in flight? I’d be happy to buy one, either an original drawing or a print, and I don’t imagine that I’m the only blogger who would like to do this.
Best regards,
Martha
7:15 pm.
Is the cleaner or security guard playing with your joystick this evening Rinchen?
Or maybe you are working a late shift. I certainly didn’t expect the HD webcam to be roaming around this late in the evening. It is usually the IR one that is on now.
Good night.
Don’t let the bed-bugs bite.
Keith, I do clean as well…going “off” now. Rinchen
Thanks to a dedicated team
For twenty years the Ospreys returned to The Loch of the Lowes.
Fighting their way back from extinction which I’m sure everybody knows.
The Osprey that comes back each year tends her chick with unequalled care.
Ensuring that for years to come the species won’t be so rare.
And people flock to see the birds, a wondrous sight to behold.
But stop a while and give a thought to a story as yet untold.
A tale of unsung heroes, without who this would not be.
The people in the background, which many never see.
The team who run the Centre, where many love to go.
Who share with us the knowledge of all there is to know.
About the rare majestic birds that captivate and enthral.
And all the other creatures, they know about them all.
They always make you welcome, and great you with a smile.
So take a seat and have a chat with Rinchen for a while.
Emma’s always round about and Peter’s in there too.
But that’s just three, there’s many more, we owe so much to you.
They’re out there in all weather, through wind, snow, rain and sun.
Whatever it takes they face it all until the job is done.
And when the eggs are on the nest there’s excitement at the Lock
But our team and volunteers keep a vigil round the clock.
You keep the cameras rolling and the blog you all update.
And we really do not mind at all when sometimes it is late
There’s so much more to what you do for which we never see,
Like checking out the camera 60 feet up a tree.
You make us feel a part of something wonderful and rare.
And reading Emma’s descriptions makes you think you’re really there
What I’m trying to say to you thought my words seem very small.
Is thank you for your devotion and God bless you one and all.
Elaine that was magnificent, a brilliant tribute to our ” Best Team in the world”, Our fantastic team at the Lowes and all the Volunteers deserve so much more for all their wonderful contribution to our Ospreys and not forgetting every small and large creature that lives there too,
Thank you Elaine, Truly Beautiful
Elaine, that is wonderful and so true, we do owe a big thank you to all the team who work to keep us all up to date and informed.
Another lovely poem
,,,, the book of poems is going to need a crane to lift it lol Just watching Rolf Harris and the Penguins , so interesting, trying to keep one eye here and other on tv
x
Nice tribute to the wonderful team at Loch of the Lowes Elaine.
Elaine, Brilliant! A very fitting tribute to a terrific team and the work they all do!
Susan, love your daughter’s picture, the detail is stunning – she’s really captured that intense osprey look – go girl!!
Amen to this!
Martha
Wonderful poem! Well said!
Elaine, your words say it all, we ALL send our thanks to the great team at Lowes and how wonderfully you have done it! Thank you!
Elaine, you’ve certainly done the team justice with that great tribute. Thanks for saying it for all of us!
Upps sorry for the spelling mistakes
Good Night Rinchen, sleep well.
Did you hear that, everyone? Sounded like a swan or other large bird flying overhead. The youngsters certainly looked up.
I thought perhaps you all might be interested in viewing the feeding on a bald eagle nest posted to YouTube just yesterday. It is from one of three cameras provided through the Institue for Wildlife Studies, Eagle Restoration Project. http://www.iws.org/bald_eagles/nestcam.htm At this address you can access three different eagle nest cams as well as accessing the discussion forum and you do not need to join to read, only if you wish to comment. You will want to view nest observations and IWS updates. The updates are done on a weekly basis by the field scientists and often include pictures of the other wildlife they encounter on these protected islands. The nesting activity begins sometimes as early as late January with some nestorations being done. Eggs hatched this year, 2 weeks apart on the three nests starting the first week in March. There are other nests without cameras for which information is also provided.
Feeding video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86IQm00L6to Think Misstress Gobble Guts is nasty? Check out K04, aka Avalon, and how possessive and aggressive she is toward her brother K06, aka Malik. She is also larger, fledged first and if she is around, gets the prey whether 06 starts out with it or not.
Enjoy,
Susan
Just got back here but sadly both cams are down right now
sory to be a pain but it looks like the cameras are both down at 9.05pm
Oh no – will have to suffer withdrawal symptoms – the webcams are both off today (this evening in Scotland)
I had been catching up with the blogs.
I was interested to read Nuphar’s blog re the book. I agree with Nuphar, that we should be careful and not make this book too large, to extravegant or too expensive. I think I mentioned a week or 2 ago that I thought it would be great if a book produced could cost about 5 pounds. That way visitors to the LOTL would probably buy it as well because it would not be too expensive.
What do the the Team at LOTL think – after all – they sell things there to raise funds. maybe they should be the ones to decide what kind of book is produced??
Someone else mentioned a book using spiral binding. Over here our WRI has just had a recipe book that we produced several years ago reprinted and the cost was not too high. It was spiral bound and looks good. Something like this would be cheaper to produce and then a “mark up” could be added to the production cost and this would be the profit for LOTL.
Just my thoughts, and am rambling on because there is no webcam for me to watch LOL!!!
Have a great evening over there and would love to hear your thoughts about the book – Susan, Jeanette? etc
I haven’t been able to get any of the web cams tonight.
Like naughty children, the owlets are! and I know all about naughty children!!
2 on the box ledge at 21.13. and one on top of the nest box by 21.27.
Like I said, that would be ‘their next trick’.
If the owlet, who is blocking the entrance, moved it’s ‘but’ No/ 3 ‘little ‘un’ would be out as well, it won’t get fed, until the other two have had their fill, I always feel so sorry for the unfed one, really I could cry!
Someone was shining a torch, in the barn, whilst the first one was on the ledge….

[ o o ] Silly owlet! Hope you’ve all had a good Day.

Now it’s been posted bits have moved, therefore it really is a ’silly owlet’. Perhaps I should have done it more central?

Dear Team,
I hope you will be leaving all the comments on this blog…for months to come, as it will me several months to read, from the start. Which I intend to do. Thank you.
Dear Girlies,
As your book seems to be getting bigger and bigger, by the day, and to be pragmatic about the cost and worry to those concerned, perhaps the most prolific of our poetesses, would therefore, consider choosing three, of what they consider to be their best poems, and the next most prolific have two poems, then anyone else could have one poem, included within the book. I would like to see a couple more hand drawn pictures.
Before you all bite my head-off, it’s just a thought. At least one person will agree with me, won’t you?
Everyone wants their 5 minutes of fame. Who said that? It’s true isn’t it? …..had mine several years ago!
No food for the owlets Y E T!!
It was Andy Warhol, Eileen. What he actually said was, “In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes”. He must have foreseen the advent of social network sites and blogs! Of course, you’re absolutely right with your version of his prediction – everyone wants to be noticed, to ‘count’ as it were, and that’s why we love to see our words in print. I have no illusions about that!
He was a very far sighted person was our Andy W.
But, no it was 5 minutes…. It was ME, who said everyone wants their 5 minutes of fame. lol. There is a poem, somewhere called ‘life is but 5 minutes long’.
Perhaps a website or Facebook page, could be set-up by someone to contain, unpublished poems?
Both cameras down!
B****r it, I’m off to America now, as I can’t get a picture on either webcam…..
Forgot to say, the BOT owlets, are actually looking like barn owls now, and not
the ever so ugly chicks that they were, yes, I know their Mum and Dad loves them, but I didn’t
That was the Osprey webcam. night night.
Oh dear,
Before I went to America, in search of good webcams, all the owlies were up on the ledge. When I got back from my travels, still 3 on the ledge…still waiting, until one of the parents brought in a mouse and knocked one of the owlies off the ledge, again, 10 minutes later another food parcel, and was grabbed by one of the owlies, she took it into the nestbox to eat it, no sooner done, then back on the ledge. Hope one on floor is ok.
Susan – thank you I have just been able to see the drawing your daughter made of Lady and it is superb – she is very talented.
no cams at all tonight
Both cams down right now.
Good morning all. No webcams this morning?
Good morning all. I have just logged on, but cannot get any pictures with either webcam. Is it just me…..or is there a problem?

No cams 1 and 2 yesterday evening and this morning – do you have bad weather?
Both cameras suddenly went down together last night ( I think at the back of 8 ) and still off this morning. Oh dear–hope all our ospreys had a settled night. It has meant this morning I can get on getting organised as I will be up there by 12. See you all soon.
ELAINE
JUST HAD TO SAY I LOVED YOUR POEM, INCLUDED EVERYONE – JUST BEAUTIFUL !! TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH ALL THE POEMS BUT HOPEFULLY WILL BE GETTING A LITTLE HELP FROM A NEARBY BLOGGER (Susan) Don’t know if any work will be getting done though, too much nonsense but sure we will get things done quicker working together. Thanks Susan. Meant to say what a beautiful beautiful sketch your daughter did. Now I could make that into a handsome card too. May have to bend your daughter’s arm here a little!! LOL
Jeanette! Check your Email. I got your cards this morning! Can only re-iterate what I said in email…..Is there no end to the talent you have? Absolutely incredible……all you bloggers out there…..buy some of these beautiful cards….well worth every penny……and more!
Sandra x
Morning one and all
I guess both cams were out of action all night. Thankfully things are looking brighter this morning, lets hope the showers stay away and will see the birds on their nest. Read some of last years diary and if i’m right, think we may only have 2 more weeks with Lady. These last few months have just flown by, just hope the younger one will grow more independant and will not rely so much on the parents, maybe because the older one has reached that stage we forget 2 days makes a diff, fingers crossed. I’m so looking forward to hearing of their first catch as it will be a good sign for when they migrate and will then be totally independant x
YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAA
YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAA The careras are back. well done team. thank you.
Sorry for my little outburst of excitement there folks, feeling a little foolish now…..LOL
Hio Marhta, it is absolutely possible, but not likely yet- she still seems to be prioritising the chcks above herself. Emma
